The Cisco C3850-NM-4-1G is a four-port Gigabit uplink module for the Cisco Catalyst 3850 Series. It installs in the network module slot on the front of the switch and provides four SFP ports that run at 1 Gigabit Ethernet. You can fit any mix of fiber or copper SFP transceivers, such as SX optics for multimode fiber or LX optics for longer single-mode runs back to the distribution layer. The module is hot-swappable, and transceivers are not included.
This is the entry-level uplink option for the 24-port and 48-port Gigabit Catalyst 3850 models, including the WS-C3850-24T, 24P, 24U, 48T, 48P, 48F and 48U. It suits older buildings where the fiber plant and upstream switches still run at 1 Gigabit, and it can be swapped for a faster module later without replacing the switch itself.
When you are ready for faster uplinks, the Cisco C3850-NM-2-10G module adds two 10 Gigabit SFP+ ports, and the Cisco C3850-NM-4-10G module provides four.
