The Brocade VDX is a family of 1 and 10 Gigabit data center switches for top-of-rack server access, built to form an Ethernet fabric (Brocade VCS) that is managed as one switch. The VDX 6720 is 10GbE SFP+ throughout, the VDX 6730 adds 8 Gb Fibre Channel ports that can connect the Ethernet fabric to an existing Fibre Channel SAN, and the VDX 6710 serves 1GbE copper servers with 10GbE uplinks. The VDX line passed from Brocade to Extreme Networks and is no longer sold new by the vendor, so buyers use these switches to extend or repair an existing VDX fabric. NetworkTigers sells VDX switches and power supplies refurbished, used and new, and every unit is tested before it ships so it works when it arrives.

Airflow, power supplies and optics

A part number ending in -F is front-to-back airflow: air enters at the port side. A part number ending in -R is back-to-front: air enters at the power supply side. Match the airflow to your rack's hot and cold aisles and to any VDX switches already in the row. Check each listing for the power supplies, fans and optics installed. This collection also carries 3000W AC and DC power supplies for the VDX 8770 chassis.

Choosing a VDX 6710, 6720 or 6730

Choose the 6710 for racks of servers with 1GbE copper ports. Choose the 6720 for 10GbE fiber or twinax servers, the 24-port model for a single rack and the 60-port model for a row. Choose the 6730 when the switch must also connect to an existing Fibre Channel SAN, and check that the unit carries the FCoE licence its Fibre Channel ports need.

Frequently asked questions

Does this VDX 6730 have the FCoE licence needed for its Fibre Channel ports?
The Fibre Channel ports on a VDX 6730 only work with the FCoE licence installed. Check the listing, or ask us and we will read the licence output on the specific unit before you order.

Can more ports be activated later?
Only with an additional Ports on Demand license, which may no longer be available for these models. Buy the unit with the active port count you need.
