The Cisco DS-C96S-FAN-E is the port side exhaust (back-to-front airflow) fan module for the Cisco MDS 9396S multilayer fabric switch. Each 9396S carries two fan modules, and both must match the airflow direction of the installed power supplies and the rack layout, so this E module pairs with port side exhaust power supplies such as the DS-CAC-1200W-E. Fan modules are hot swappable, but the switch needs both installed to keep running, which makes a spare worth keeping on hand.
