NEW Cisco Meraki MA-CBL-TA-1M 1m 10GB SFP+ Direct Attach Copper

The Cisco Meraki MA-CBL-TA-1M is a 1-meter 10 Gigabit SFP+ twinax direct attach cable. It has an SFP+ connector molded onto each end, so it replaces two optics and a fiber patch for short links inside a rack, such as switch to server, switch to security appliance, or switch to switch.

Direct attach cables cost less and use less power than a pair of transceivers, and there is nothing to clean or align. The trade-off is reach: the cable runs only its fixed length, so it is meant for devices in the same rack or the rack next door.

Meraki lists the 1m cable for the MS125, MS225, MS250, MS350, MS355, MS410, and MS425 switches, and the 3m version for the MX95, MX105, MX250, and MX450 security appliances. Use it between SFP+ ports on Meraki gear; third-party equipment at the other end should accept a passive copper DAC.

For longer runs, use optics such as the MA-SFP-10GB-SR 10GB short-reach SFP+ transceiver over multimode fiber. A switch that takes this cable is the MS225-24-HW with 4x 10GB SFP+ uplinks.
