The Cisco N9K-C9504-FM is the first-generation 40GB fabric module for the Nexus 9504 4-slot chassis. Fabric modules connect the line cards to each other, so the number installed sets how much bandwidth each line card slot has. Cisco rates each module at 1,280 Gbps.
A Nexus 9504 takes a minimum of three and a maximum of six of these modules. They support the N9K-X9736PQ in ACI spine mode, and the X9636PQ, X9536PQ, X9432PQ, X9564PX, X9464PX, X9564TX, and X9464TX2 line cards in NX-OS mode. Cisco lists power draw at 95W typical and 131W maximum. This module fits only the N9K-C9504 chassis.
The number of modules a line card needs varies: the X9564TX needs three for full bandwidth, the X9464TX2 needs four, and the X9736PQ needs six. Adding modules beyond the minimum also adds redundancy.
Line cards that work with this module include the Cisco N9K-X9564TX 48x 10GB copper 4x 40GB line card, the Cisco N9K-X9464TX2 48x 10GB copper 4x 40GB line card, and the Cisco N9K-X9736PQ 36x 40GB QSFP+ ACI spine line card. The Cisco N9K-C9504-FAN Nexus 9504 fan tray mounts in front of the fabric module slots.
