StarTech for Cisco Meraki MASFP1GBTXST 1GB BASE-T SFP Transceiver

The StarTech.com MASFP1GBTXST is a copper SFP module made by StarTech.com and coded to be compatible with the Cisco Meraki MA-SFP-1GB-TX. It turns an SFP port into an RJ-45 port, so a switch or security appliance can use its SFP slots with ordinary Ethernet cable instead of fiber.

It runs at 10, 100, or 1000 Mbps with auto-negotiation and auto MDI-X, and reaches 100 meters (328 feet) over Category 5e or Category 6 cable. It is hot-pluggable and rated for 0 to 70 degrees C. StarTech.com sells it for Meraki devices that support the MA-SFP-1GB-TX, which Meraki lists for all MX appliances and all MS switches except the MS390.

Copper SFPs are handy when every RJ-45 port on a switch is in use but SFP uplink ports sit empty, when a copper handoff from a carrier lands next to the switch, or when a short link to a server in the same rack does not justify fiber. Use it at Gigabit speed or below; it does not run at 10 Gigabit.
