The Cisco Meraki CW9162I-MR is an indoor Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) access point in the Meraki cloud-managed version. It runs three 2x2 client radios on 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz, for a maximum PHY rate of 3.9 Gbps, plus a dedicated scanning and security radio and Bluetooth Low Energy.
The uplink is one Multigigabit RJ-45 port at 100M, 1G, or 2.5G. Full function needs 802.3at or 802.3bt PoE at up to 25.5W. On 802.3af the AP runs only 1x1 on 5 and 6 GHz, with 2.4 GHz off. Internal omnidirectional antennas give 4 dBi on 2.4 GHz and 5 dBi on 5 and 6 GHz.
The CW9162I-MR is the compact model in the Catalyst 916x range, at 7.8 inches square and 2.1 lb, which suits classrooms, small offices, and hotel rooms. The 6 GHz band needs a Wi-Fi 6E or newer client; older devices connect on 2.4 and 5 GHz. The AIR-AP-BRACKET-2 bracket and T-rail adapter are listed in the Cisco box contents.
For more streams in busier rooms, the CW9164I-MR 4x4 Wi-Fi 6E access point and the CW9166I-MR are the step up. For Wi-Fi 7, see the CW9172I (new). The access point is sold unclaimed; a Meraki license is required, purchased separately.
