Cisco Meraki MA-QSFP-40G-LR4 40GB BASE-LR4 1310nm SMF QSFP+ Transceiver

The Cisco Meraki MA-QSFP-40G-LR4 is a 40GBASE-LR4 QSFP+ optic for 40 Gigabit links over single-mode fiber. It transmits in the 1310nm band over OS1 or OS2 fiber with a duplex LC connector, with a reach of 10 kilometers. It is the single-mode alternative to the multimode SR4 and CSR4 optics for the same 40 Gigabit QSFP+ ports.

Meraki lists it for the MS355, MS390, MS425, and MS450 switches. On the MS390 the 40 Gigabit ports come from an uplink module, so the switch needs the MA-MOD-2X40G installed before it can use this optic. Both ends of the link must use 40GBASE-LR4 optics on single-mode fiber.

LR4 is the usual choice for 40 Gigabit links between buildings on a campus or to a distant aggregation closet. Because it runs on a single duplex LC pair rather than an MPO trunk, it also reuses existing single-mode patch panels. Check that every panel on the path is single-mode, since an LR4 optic will not link over multimode cable.
